| There was an Interactive Session
on “New Perspectives on Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan”
(Education for All) , led by Shri Champak Chatterjee,
I A S., Secretary, Dept. of School Education and Literacy,
Ministry of HRD, Government of India, at Bangalore International
Centre on 4th October, 2007 at 5.00 PM.
Shri Chatterjee, through a power point presentation
outlined the steps taken by the Government of India
to enhance the status of Literacy and improve the accessibility
and quality of elementary education. He emphasized that
resources were available for the massive programme,
but the absorptive capacity in many areas needed to
be toned up. He pointed out that the southern states
were doing much better than other areas and praised
the work that was being done in Karnataka.
The talk was followed by a lively interactive session
in which several members participated.
