a Talk by Dr. Griffin M. Thompson, Program Manager,
Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate
(APP), Senior Advisor, U S Department of State, Bureau
of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific
Affairs and a specialist in renewable energy and energy
efficiency issues on Tuesday, 5th August, 2008 at its

Dr. Thompson delivered his talk on “Reliability
and Affordability of Energy Services Required for a
Developing Economy”
In a stimulating talk, Dr. Thompson outlined
the various energy options available to a developing
economy like India and commended the initiatives already
taken in the field of renewable energy. He emphasized
that affordability is closely linked up with the question
of availability and that all the options available,
including the capital-intensive ones, must be seriously
explored. In the process, however, one must ensure that
environmental pollution and degradation is drastically
brought down. He drew attention in this respect to the
salutary steps already initiated in this respect in
several other countries.
The highly interesting and interactive
session was presided over by Dr. J Gururaja, former
Senior Adviser (Energy – New and Renewable), United
Nations and former Adviser, Ministry of Non-Conventional
Energy Sources, Government of India. |
