Bangalore International Centre had
organised “Kannada Journalism Day on 1st July, 2007 at
11 AM at the Centre for Cinema and Drama, 5th Floor, Sona Towers,
Millers Road, Bangalore.
Sri K Satyanarayan, Senior Journalist delivered a Key Note
Address on the occasion. Dr. R Poornima, Editor of Udayavani
and Mr. Vishveshwara Bhat of Vijaya Karnataka talked on the
“State of Kannada Journalism”
Speaking on his key note address, Sri K Satyanarayan said
there was nothing to worry about the future of Kannada Journalism.
“Nowadays, owners of Kannada media houses are earning
well. Journalists are also well paid. However, there are few
things in the field which need to be addressed” he said.
On increase in number of editions of newspapers, he said:
“As Bangalore-based State-level newspapers have started
playing the role of district-level papers, original district-level
papers are losing ground”.
Dr. R Poornima said, newspapers are facing the challenge
of presenting reader-friendly reports on daily events. “The
public get information through 24-hour news channels much
before newspapers. So, what should be the mode of presenting
a news report in a newspaper. Should the reporter put just
facts or analyse the event in detail” she asked.
Mr. Vishweshwara Bhat said compared to Kerala, Tamil Nadu
and Andhra Pradesh, total circulation of Kannada newspapers
in Karnataka is lesser. Still there are many places in Karnataka
where new2spapers have not reached.
Mr. K N Shanth Kumar, Managing Editor of Deccan Herald Group
of papers who is also the Foundation Member of Bangalore International
Centre was also present.
