Celebration of "Kannada Journalism Day" held on 1st July, 2007

Bangalore International Centre had organised “Kannada Journalism Day on 1st July, 2007 at 11 AM at the Centre for Cinema and Drama, 5th Floor, Sona Towers, Millers Road, Bangalore.

Sri K Satyanarayan, Senior Journalist delivered a Key Note Address on the occasion. Dr. R Poornima, Editor of Udayavani and Mr. Vishveshwara Bhat of Vijaya Karnataka talked on the “State of Kannada Journalism”

Speaking on his key note address, Sri K Satyanarayan said there was nothing to worry about the future of Kannada Journalism. “Nowadays, owners of Kannada media houses are earning well. Journalists are also well paid. However, there are few things in the field which need to be addressed” he said. On increase in number of editions of newspapers, he said: “As Bangalore-based State-level newspapers have started playing the role of district-level papers, original district-level papers are losing ground”.

Dr. R Poornima said, newspapers are facing the challenge of presenting reader-friendly reports on daily events. “The public get information through 24-hour news channels much before newspapers. So, what should be the mode of presenting a news report in a newspaper. Should the reporter put just facts or analyse the event in detail” she asked.

Mr. Vishweshwara Bhat said compared to Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, total circulation of Kannada newspapers in Karnataka is lesser. Still there are many places in Karnataka where new2spapers have not reached.

Mr. K N Shanth Kumar, Managing Editor of Deccan Herald Group of papers who is also the Foundation Member of Bangalore International Centre was also present.

Mr. P R Dasgupta, Director of Bangalore International Centre was present
