| It was a mesmerizing evening
as Mr. Arun Pai tok a house-full audience, which had gathered
at the BIC auditorium to hear him, along certain well-known
landmarks of Bangalore and highlighted their background.
History became alive as Arun talked about the heritage
and history of Kempegowda towers, South Parade (M G Road),
East Parade Church, Queen Victoria’s Statue, St.
Mark’s Cathedral, Mayo Hall, Ulsoor Gate, Devenahalli
Fort and a whole lot of other places which one had seen,
but had not really known the way Arun described them.
It was a wonderfully evocative talk, laced with nostalgia
– and even, music! Arun strummed his guitar and
sang those ditties which love-lorn English armymen sang
as they pined for their companions who, alas, could not
make the trip to India due to the then communication problems
(prior to the opening of the Suez Canal). A lively interactive
session, presided over by Shri Kishore Rao, Managing Trustee
of Karunashraya, followed. All in all, a very enjoable
evening. |
