The film “The Advocate”
directed by Ms. Deepa Dhanraj was screened on 20th June,
2008 at 6 PM in the Auditorium of Bangalore International
Centre.
The film is based on the human rights and civil liberties
movement in India. It is part biography and partly history
of the times attempts to document the remarkable contribution
of Mr. K G Kannabiran in challenging the Indian State
to uphold the rule of law in institutions of Governance,
justice and political praxis. Spanning the period from
1968 till 2005 the film tries to cover his landmark
cases, his work as Secretary to Tarkende Committee and
the Bhargava Commission. The narration, the documentation,
the depiction, the editing – everything about
the film was superb.
A select audience watched the film with rapt attention
and later participated in a lively interaction presided
over by Ms. Ammu joseph.
