Bangalore International Centre had
arranged an illustrated talk on “Myth, Spirit,
Ritual: Bhuta P3rformance Rituals of Tulunadu”
by eminent Artist Mr. Balan Nambiar on Saturday, the
2nd August, 2008 at 6.30 p.m. The event was presided
over by Mrs. Geetha Rao, President, Arts Umbrella.
In a well-researched presentation, illustrated
with more than 80 slides, Balan Nambiar outlined the
salient features of the Bhuta rituals which are usually
performed in Bhutasthanas or village shrines. People
performing the Bhuta rituals wear elaborate colourful
costumes with intricately carved masks. The packed hall
heard him with rapt attention and sought more detailed
information during the interactive session. This talk
was a part of the Airtel-BIC Manthan Art and Culture
Series and was widely appreciated by the audience which
included a wide cross-section of the society. |
